It is old (2006), but the UBmatrix Taxonomy Designer can be helpful in understanding XBRL.  You can download this ZIP archive to install it. This is an excellent learning tool.  To install,

  1. You need Windows 7 or 10.
  2. Install the Microsoft.Net Framework 1.1 redistributable (dotnetfx.exe)
  3. Install the Micrsoft Visual J# runtime redistributable (vjredist.exe)
  4. Install the Microsoft Data Access Components 2.8
  5. Run Setup.msi in the ZIP archive above.

You can also get the UBmatrix XBRL Processing Engine (XPE) version 2.5 here on source forge

You might also want to try this Micorosft Access based XBRL taxonomy creator, Luca, or this Microsoft Access based taxonomy creator that leverages the SBRM logical conceptulization of a business report.
