BLOG:  Digital Financial Reporting

This is a blog for information relating to digital financial reporting.  This blog is basically my "lab notebook" for experimenting and learning about XBRL-based digital financial reporting.  This is my brain storming platform.  This is where I think out loud (i.e. publicly) about digital financial reporting. This information is for innovators and early adopters who are ushering in a new era of accounting, reporting, auditing, and analysis in a digital environment.

Much of the information contained in this blog is synthasized, summarized, condensed, better organized and articulated in my book XBRL for Dummies and in the chapters of Intelligent XBRL-based Digital Financial Reporting. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Wired: The End of Code

In a thought provoking article, The End of Code, Wired writer Jason Tanz explains why you will not need to understand how to code to get computers to perform useful tasks for you.  This statement pretty much summarizes the article:

Programming won’t be the sole domain of trained coders who have learned a series of arcane languages. It’ll be accessible to anyone who has ever taught a dog to roll over.

What he does not explain precisely are the pieces that will make this work.  If you have been following my blog you know what some of those pieces are.  If you want to know the others be sure to stay tuned.

If you want to catch up, please read through Knowledge Engineering Basics for Accounting Professionals.

Updated Conceptual Overview of XBRL-based, Structured, Digital Financial Report

I have updated the document 10 page Conceptual Overview of an XBRL-based, Structured, Digital Financial Report.  It is still not exactly what I want it to be, but it does now capture the full essence of what I am trying to communicate.

Even if you have read this 10 page document before, it is worth doing so again.  If anyone has ideas to improve the document even more, please send the ideas my way.
